Jean Gaumy
Construction of the Pont de Normandie (Normandy Bridge). The world's largest cable stayed bridge, located on the Estuary of the Seine between the ports of Honfleur and Le Havre.
Prior to the trucks brining in the tonnes of earth and rock required to make the foundations for the building of the piers, workers lay on the estuary bed of the Seine river over 50.000 m2 of GEOTEXTILE sheets, in order to stop the base from sinking and absorbing the earth and rock mass. GEOTEXTILE also serves as drains to evacuate infiltrated water.
