HAITI. Sukri. 2000. Hounsis, serving ladies dressed in white, who go in trance
when they are " mounted " by a loa (spirit), jump in the river, to carry on voodoo rituals dedicated to the loas of Africa.
The magic of voodoo is very much alive in Haiti today, five centuries after it was introduced by the slaves, and 200 years after it helped african tribes unite against the French colonists in their fight for independence.
This cult, dedicated to the spirits of nature as well as those of the ancestors, houses many rituals.
