29. May l 93. As the Towers start to rise, the cable stays are being put into place. It will be necessary to have over 2000 kilometers of cable for 50 kilometers of stays. There will be 184 stays put into operation, hanging from the Towers, each stay containing 81 cables, starting from ground level to the summit (photo 29).One of the great advantages of a cable stayed bridge in comparison to a suspension brdige, is that individually changes can be made to each stay, and if necessary changes also to the inner cables. Like in the initial assembly, it will only require 2 to 3 men to make such a manoeuver. A worker at 120 meters above the bridge's metallic deck, lowering from the North Tower a cable into position which is part of the 51 which will form the "cable stays" (the black tube seen in this photo), from which is suspended the traffic deck of the bridge. This is the second cable stay in position, there will finally be in all 23 times 8 suspended cable says from the Tower.
