Hiroji Kubota
CHINA. Kashgar, Xinjiang. 1999. The back streets of the old section of Kashgar are mazelike, though the type of stone used in a road tell you, for instance, whether is a dead end. A feature of the homes in the old city is that each has a small inner yard. A carpet covers the living room floor inside the houses, but there are no seats or sofas. People sit on the floor, stretching their legs, and either eat or join in conversations. A peddler selling fruits and vegetables passes quietly along one of the typical alleys in the old section of Kashgar.
