INDIA. Muzaffarpur, Bihar. 1999. Floods hit the northern part of Bihar State every year during the monsoon season. Part of the reason for the flooding is that a number of rivers flowing south from Nepal pass through this area to converge with the Ganga (Ganges) River. This area seems to me to have much in common with the northern part of the Hunan Province in China. Shown in the photo are friends and relatives of an old man who died of exhaustion during the flooding. The old man's body was wrapped in a blanket and placed on a rough litter on dry ground prior to temporary burial.
