NEPAL. Bhadrapur. 1998. The city of Bhadrapur is located at Nepal's southernmost point, just ten kilometers from India's West Bengal State. The climate in this lower part of Nepal, just north of India, is totally different from that in the elevated regions. The soil is relatively fertile, and water paddies are common. Although this photo is of a pastoral scene, not far away are camps holding over one hundred thousand refugees of Nepalese descent from Bhutan. These people are unable to return home and have already been forced to live for ten years in their camps.
