EL SALVADOR. Morazan. 1991. A young guerilla recruit bathes on Sunday morning. Young women usually made up the ranks of brigadistas performing emergency medical care with very little training. All rural civilians of age were also trained by the guerillas for emergency response. Civilians made up the main source of support for the FMLN guerillas during the 12-year civil war. Certain areas of rural El Salvador (largely in the north) were under guerilla control for most of the war.
