HAITI. 2000. Seau d'eau waterfall. Pilgrims from all over the country as well as the diaspora come to this sacred waterfall to take a "fortune bath". With medicinal herbs and perfumes, they ask their loas (personal or family spirits) to fortify them.
They discard their old underclothes.

The magic of voodoo is very much alive in Haiti today, five centuries
after it was introduced by the slaves, and 200 years after it helped African
tribes unite against the French colonists in their fight for independence. This
cult, dedicated to the spirits of nature as well as those of the ancestors,
houses many rituals.
