Fleet NATO Battle Group, during conflict with Serbia over Kosovo.USS KEARSARGE: Is a multi purpose Wasp class amphibious landing assault ship, her primary mission is the embarkation, deployment, landing and support of a Marine landing force. The first ships to use the Air Cushion Landing Craft (LCAC) which is a fast moving large hovercraft capable of landing large forces of Marines and equipment to a beachhead. The ship has onboard aside from its crew a full detachment of 2200 marines ready for deployment. For close air support the ship has large flight deck equipped with Harrier II jump jets, and a full range of Navy and Marine Corps helicopters. The ships' hospital is capable of holding 600 casaulties.
