Peter Marlow
Indonesia. Solo. Gamelan, the indigenous orchestral music of Java and Bali. With it's remit to study the music of cultures outside of Europe, The Cite de la Musique, in Paris, commissioned a complete Gamelan to be made in Solo, by the master craftsman Tentrim Sarawanto. The centre opened in 1995 and the Gamelan is now used there for the use of visiting musicians and schoolchildren to study this tonally unusual music. The making of this Gamelan was exclusively photographed at the famous workshop by Peter Marlow.
