Greece. 04th of September 2009. Island of Lesvos, also known as Mytilini, next to the Turkish border.
Between Molyvos and Mytilini, an Afghan family is taking a break after having crossed illegally the Egean sea that night without beeing caught by the greek coast guards or by Frontex (The European frontier agency) whose helicopter had nevertheless saw them around midnight. The boat Patrick Zachmann was on didn't go to arrest them because they were too far. He found them later on the road. Their family name is Ahmadi and they are from Hazara tribe. Several days later, the photographer will meet the Ahmadi again in Athens. They managed to arrive there escaping police, by buying boat tickets on the black market from an Afghan trafficker who sold them 200 dollars each instead of 27 dollars that normally cost.
