Life in 1978 of four small towns in the Department of Haute-Savoie (Magland, Châtillon-sur-Cluses, Saint-Sigismond et Arâches-les-Carroz), near the industrial town of Cluses and of the Flaine skiing station. The balance between tourism and agriculture is becoming difficult to achieve in these little towns. The isolated hamlets are deserted, most of the younger emigrate. Only a few of the small traditional farms are still at work for the time being, but they are bound to alter their lifestyle, or they will not survive.
