JAPAN. Magome, a post town in the Kiso Valley which served travellers of the Nakasendo trail, a major route connecting Tokyo with Kyoto during the Edo period. Museum of the writer Shimazaki Toson, born in 1872, highly regarded in japanese literature, his famous novel "Yoakemae"(Before the dawn) describes life in this area during the early years of the Meiji restoration.
This Memorial museum is in the Honjin which was the principle inn of the postal town of Magome. Toson's father was the last inn keeper and Toson was born here.
