March 5 and 6, 2011. Nuclear submarine (SSBN) nuclear missile launcher Le Terrible.
The submarine departs on its first mission of deterrence.
In the control room where all aspects of submarine navigation are controlled.
A few minutes have passed since the Commander himself entered the secret codes for the atomic arms according to the instructions received from the President of the French Republic. It is the most sensitive exercise that can take place aboard a submarine.
He now watches in silence the relentless course of operations. Several missiles were supposed to take off underwater from the missile launch tubes in this simulation. Numerous technical problems (especially related to the stability of the vessel) must be solved in seconds with the use of computers and the automatic functioning of machines. For example, a ship that has launched missiles loses hundreds of tons that it must recover and balance in seconds to keep its stability at a given depth.
Meanwhile, the programmed death will be precise, hitting within 50 meters of its target while traveling a course thousands of kilometers long if necessary.
