Beira. Mozambique. These women are patients in the PMTCT (prevention of mother to child transmission) clinic and all are infected with HIV. They are waiting to have their babies weighed and checked during routine transmission prevention treatment. This is at Munhava Health Clinic (outer edges of Beira). Photographs and videos from here are of the main waiting area, the pre-natal counseling clinic, two patient/nurse consultation in which pregnant patients are tested for HIV and counseled on outcomes, and PMTCT clinic operations. This clinic offers the same type of services (minus the lab facility) as Ponta Gea but supports the suburban area of Beira, ~70,000 people. Kuplumusanna WomenÍs Support Group is based out of this clinic and they work here daily. There is a clinic here designed to treat/educate mothers infected with HIV; this is a good example of PMTCT efforts that are currently in place to protect children from HIV/AIDS.
