IRAQ. Iraqi Kurdistan, Near the town of Kifri. PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan). Furthest southern part of the Kurdish controlled areas, ca 100km north of Baghdad. April, 2003. After US airstrikes and shelling between Iraqi government forces and Kurdish Peshmergas, the Iraqis retreat and the Kurdish forces take up positions at least 15 km inside former Iraqi territory. They take over the Iraqi positions, loot, and destroy pictures of Iraqi President Saddam HUSSEIN.
