IRAQ, Mosul, 04/12/03. One day after the contested (between Kurds and Arabs) oil rich city in the North of Iraq was abandonned by Iraqi troops and partly taken over by Kurdish fighters, Peshmergas and US troops made an effort to control the city under extreme difficulties. US troops repeatedly came under fire and the majority of the Arab population reacted with anger at the arrival of the Peshmergas and US. On day two lawlessness continued, armed mobs roamed the streets. The US has only secured the airport. At the main hospital dozen of wounded, mostly Arabs are brought in and several killed, as they say by Kurds. Later Arab, Khaldean Christian, and Kurdish community and tribal leaders are addressed by and meet the US commander xxx name later at the airport controlled by US and Peshmerga, "to avoid further ethnic violence". More US troops arrive. Peshmergas are in parts of the city.
