Israel. West Bank. Ramallah. 2002.
The Muqata is an old colonial building in the centre of Ramallah..in it's
long history (used by the Israeli and the Jordanians as the main centre of
command in the area) it has also been used as a prison by the English at the
beginning of the century and in the last year and a half it has become
Yassir Arafat's prison. Progressively destroyed by the IDF's incursions and
sieges the president of the Palestinian Authority now lives in the last
remaining building of what was a large complex of buildings. He lives there
surrounded by his most loyal people, the "circle from Tunis" as they are
known and protected by Force 17, Arafat's personal guard and the
Palestinian's only special forces. Here he works and receives his guests in
a state of constant siege.
