CAMBODIA. Siem Reap. Funeral of a young man who hanged himself in Arang village. The body cremated in the village wat, ashes are covered by a banana leaf. A ritual of passing hand to hand a lit candle around the body is completed by gathering burned bones which are washed with coconut juice, then given to the widow in a dish to be taken home. Monks attend, seated apart and hold a thread which goes to the ashes.
