Marilyn Silverstone
INDIA. Sikkim. Near gangtok. 1960. Carved and painted shrine at a wayside water source. The letters spell the mantra of compassion. The 6 colors represent the 6 regions of Samsara (worldly existence). Such shrines are meant to be a constant reminder of pure vision speech, and mind, giving passerbys a chance to earn a good karma.
