IRAQ. Najaf. Shia women in black veil mourn the "aarbayine" (40th days after death) of a man murdered in Bassorah after British troops occupied the city. Many Shias ask to be buried in Najaf, next to the shrine of Imam Ali, the founder of the Shi'ite sect of Islam.
